The Ukrainian Figure Skating Championships are an annual figure skating competition organized by the Ukrainian Figure Skating Federation to crown the national champions of Ukraine. Following Ukraine's independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the first Ukrainian Championships were held in December 1992 in Odesa, and they have been held without interruption since. Medals are awarded in men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance at the senior and junior levels, although each discipline may not necessarily be held every year due to a lack of participants. Vitaliy Danylchenko and Anton Kovalevski are currently tied for winning the most Ukrainian Championship titles in men's singles (with five each), while Elena Liashenko holds the record in women's singles (with seven). Stanislav Morozov holds the record in pair skating (with seven), although these were not all won with the same partner. Irina Romanova and Igor Yaroshenko, and Oleksandra Nazarova and Maksym Nikitin, are tied for winning the most titles in ice dance (with six each). (Full list...)

The Medal of Honor is the United States Armed Forces' highest military decoration and is awarded to service members who have distinguished themselves in combat situations by acts of valor. It has been awarded to over 3,500 people; among those recipients are ten members of the Chaplain Corps: nine chaplains and one chaplain assistant. Four of the chaplains who received the award served in the Union army during the American Civil War, one in the Navy during World War II, one in the Army in the Korean War, and the remaining three in the Vietnam War: two in the Army, and one in the Navy. All five chaplains awarded the honor since the Civil War have been Catholic priests, two of whom, Emil Kapaun (pictured) and Vincent Capodanno, are in the process of canonization as saints. Francis B. Hall of the 16th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment was the first chaplain to receive the Medal of Honor, for actions at the Battle of Salem Church in 1863. (Full list...)

Many hardwood trees are included in Silvics of North America, a forest inventory compiled and published by the United States Forest Service in 1991. It superseded Silvics of Forest Trees of the United States (1965), which was the first such formal scholarly inventory. Hardwood has a variety of commercial uses, including in furniture, carpentry, tools and musical instruments. Some timber is milled for plywood, wood veneer and construction framing, including structural support beams and studs. Logs can be fashioned into posts and poles. The Grammy Award for Best Rap Album is an award presented to recording artists for quality albums with rapping at the Grammy Awards. The honor was first presented to the group Naughty by Nature for Poverty's Paradise at the 38th Annual Grammy Awards (1996). Lauryn Hill was the first female artist to win in this category, when she won in 1997 with the Fugees; the first solo female rapper to win was Cardi B in 2019 for Invasion of Privacy. Eminem (pictured) holds the record for the most wins, with six. Jay-Z holds the record for the most nominations, with eleven. In 2017, Chance the Rapper's Coloring Book became the first mixtape to win the award. GNX by Kendrick Lamar is the most recent recipient. (Full list...)

One hundred fifty-one episodes of the American television sitcom Malcolm in the Middle aired over the course of seven seasons. The series was created by Linwood Boomer for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series follows a dysfunctional, working-class family, focusing on child prodigy Malcolm (Frankie Muniz), who also narrates the series by addressing the audience. The first season began airing on January 9, 2000, and aired through May 21, consisting of 16 episodes. Ratings for the season were high, with the premiere garnering 22.35 million viewers, before peaking at 23.24 million with the second episode the following week. Malcolm in the Middle continued to air regularly until its seventh and final season, which began on September 30, 2005, and ended on May 14, 2006. (Full list...)

The Ming dynasty continued the use of era names, a system introduced by Emperor Wu of Han in 114 BC, or more formally in 110 BC. A Chinese era name, or "reign motto", was chosen at the beginning of an emperor's reign to reflect the political, economic, or social conditions of the time. During the Ming dynasty, with the exception of Emperor Yingzong, who had two separate reigns, each emperor used only one era name throughout his reign, whereas emperors of earlier dynasties often adopted multiple era names. As a result, Ming emperors are commonly referred to by their era names. There were seventeen era names during the Ming dynasty. The first era, Hongwu, was inaugurated by the Hongwu Emperor in 1368, and the last era, Chongzhen, ended when the Chongzhen Emperor committed suicide during the fall of Beijing in 1644. The longest Ming era was Wanli, lasting 48 years, and the shortest was Taichang, which succeeded Wanli and lasted only about four months. (Full list...)

Nineteen systems formed during the 2002 Pacific hurricane season, with fifteen further strengthening into named tropical storms; eight became hurricanes, of which six attained major hurricane status. The 2002 Pacific hurricane season consisted of the events that occurred in the annual cycle of tropical cyclone formation over the Pacific Ocean north of the equator and east of the International Date Line. The official bounds of each Pacific hurricane season are defined by the National Hurricane Center (NHC), beginning on May 15 in the Eastern Pacific and June 1 in the Central Pacific, and ending on November 30 in both areas. Activity in the 2002 season was generally near normal, with the number of tropical storms and hurricanes matching the respective 1991–2020 averages; however, the number of major hurricanes was above the average of four for the same period. Hurricanes Elida, Hernan, and Kenna achieved Category 5 strength on the Saffir–Simpson scale, tying a record set in 1994 for the most storms to do so in one season since reliable records began in 1971. The Leading Ladies of Entertainment is an annual event organized by the Latin Recording Academy, the body that also distributes the Latin Grammy Awards, at which awards are presented to women "excelling in the arts and sciences, and who have made indelible impressions and contributions to the Latin entertainment industry". Award recipients are honored during Latin Grammy Week, a string of events held prior to the annual Latin Grammy Awards ceremony. The accolade was established in 2017 by the organization to acknowledge the gender gap in the Latin entertainment industry. The awards were first presented to Marcella Araica, Leila Cobo (pictured), Erika Ender, Rebeca León, Gabriela Martinez, and Jessica Rodriguez. The 2022 Ballon d'Or was the 66th annual presentation of the Ballon d'Or, presented by France Football, recognising the best footballers in the world during the 2021–22 season. For the first time in its history, the award was given based on the results of the European season instead of the calendar year. The nominees for the ceremony were announced on 12 August 2022, and the ceremony was held on 17 October. Karim Benzema (pictured) won the Ballon d'Or, for successfully leading Real Madrid to win both the UEFA Champions League and La Liga. Alexia Putellas claimed the Ballon d'Or Féminin, following her successful domestic campaign with Barcelona. In the other award categories, Gavi was given the Kopa Trophy, Thibaut Courtois won the Yashin Trophy, Robert Lewandowski was presented with the newly named Gerd Müller Trophy, and Manchester City claimed the Club of the Year award. The Pit Stop Challenge is a single elimination, pit stop competition held before the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana. It takes place after the final practice session on Carb Day, which is held two days before the race. First held in 1977, the contest has pit crews compete head-to-head in single-round eliminations for three rounds. In each round they conduct a standard pit stop—switching all four tires on a racing vehicle and simulating refueling via a fuel hose connection to the fuel tank—in the shortest possible time in a drag race-style event that happens in a specially constructed dual pit lane. Contest participants are selected from IndyCar Series-registered teams and Indianapolis 500 entrants. The winning team and driver share the winners' prize of $50,000 from $150,000 total prize money. There are 106 municipalities in Seville, a province in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. As of the 2024[update] Spanish census, Seville is the 5th most populous of Spain's 50 provinces, with 1,968,624 inhabitants, and the 12th largest by land area, spanning 14,036.15 square kilometres (5,419.39 sq mi). The largest municipality by population in the province as of the 2024 Spanish census is Seville (pictured), its capital, with 686,741 residents, while the smallest is El Madroño, with 305 residents. English band Duran Duran have recorded over 200 songs during their career. Since their formation in 1978, Duran Duran have credited all of their songs to all members equally, aside from covers. They emerged as members of the New Romantic scene with their debut album Duran Duran (1981). Its follow-up, Rio (1982), cemented Duran Duran as forerunners in the Second British Invasion. The synth-pop and new wave record featured more experimentation than their debut, combining faster, upbeat songs ("Rio", "Hungry Like the Wolf") with slower, atmospheric tracks ("Save a Prayer"). Between 1984 and 1985, Duran Duran worked with Nile Rodgers on a remix of Seven's "The Reflex" and "The Wild Boys", and recorded the title song of the James Bond film A View to a Kill (1985). Kim Seon-ho (Korean: 김선호) is a South Korean actor with a diverse body of work across various entertainment platforms. He primarily appears in television series and has also participated in three unscripted television shows and one feature film, as well as one radio show. He began his career in theater, making his debut on stage in 2009. After performing exclusively on stage for eight years, he auditioned for a television role, landing a supporting role in the KBS2 drama Good Manager (2017). His first leading role came in the four-episode MBC drama special You Drive Me Crazy (2018). He gained international recognition after joining the main cast of the KBS variety show 2 Days & 1 Night (2019–2021) and for his breakout role in the tvN drama series Start-Up (2020). He made his feature film debut in the action noir film The Childe (2023) directed by Park Hoon-jung, where he was top billing. Colorado has sent congressional delegations to the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives since it became a U.S. state in 1876, beginning with the 44th United States Congress. Before becoming a state, the Colorado Territory sent non-voting delegates to the House of Representatives from 1861 to 1876. Prior to the ratification of the Seventeenth Amendment in 1913, senators were elected by the Colorado General Assembly. Today, voters in Colorado elect two members of the Senate to serve for six-year terms and, since the 2020 United States census, eight members of the House to two-year terms, one for each congressional district (map pictured).
